Joseph G. Hodakowski, Sr.
A graduate of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he started his career as an
Internal Revenue Agent in Newark, NJ and later became an instructor in field audit
examinations. His experience with the IRS has made him an expert in the area of federal
and state tax audits and the appeals process.
With forty years of experience working with a wide rage of clients, he has developed
several areas of expertise that include tax consulting for individual’s businesses, and
Estates. Many business relationships have developed over time into appointments as
Executor Trustee, Power of Attorney, and Directorships. These appointments are
coupled with the management of several portfolios in excess of $3,000,000. The tax
and financial planning done prior to the appointment has helped clients achieve their
goals in the most advantageous way.
Joseph is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the
New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is a past president of the
Morris Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the Council Director of the Knights of
Columbus.
As a parent of a disabled child, he has pursued an in interest in special needs trusts,
advocacy guardianship and estate planning.

Joseph graduated Magna Cum Laude from Gettysburg College in 1998 with a BS in
Accounting and Finance and a minor in Economics. A member of several honor
societies including Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon, Joseph received the
Anne B. Johnson award, as the most outstanding accounting student and was a
recipient of the Linnean award for his accomplishments in the classroom and
contributions to the community. He was also a four year letterman and captain of the
varsity football team, being named second team All-American his senior year.
Upon graduation, Joseph accepted a position with one of the largest accounting firms in
the world, Ernst & Young LLP. After reaching the rank of tax manager he left the firm
to form Hodakowski & Hodakowski. While gaining a broad range of expertise at Ernst
& Young LLP, he primarily specialized in general business tax compliance. Many of his
clients were publicly traded corporations and he acquired extensive knowledge in
domestic, international and tax accounting issues.
Joseph specializes in corporate tax accounting and consulting for corporations that need
an independent consultant to be in compliance with section 404 (Sarbanes-Oxley Act)
or do not have the internal staffing to prepare FAS 109 calculations and the related
disclosures for their financial statements. He also does tax consulting related to mergers
and acquisitions, change in ownership, taxable income projections and other compliance
related projects.
In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, he graduated Cum Laude from
Seton Hall University with a Masters degree in Taxation. He is a member of the Finance
Committee for the Union County Association for Retarded Citizens, Board Member of
the Pennsylvania Delta Corporation, Board Member of North-Hunterdon Voorhees
Educational Foundation, member of the Pope John High School feasibility Committee,
member of the West Coast Chapter of Business Networking Incorporated and a
member of Young Entrepreneurs Organization. He is also actively involved in Special
Olympics.
